Listen to Cassadee Pope on iHeartRadio

(Yahoo!) - Cassadee Pope started off Season 3 of "The Voice" as a pop-punk singer, a Warped Tour veteran with an Avril Lavigne fetish and a background as the frontgirl for the Pete Wentz-championed Decaydence Records band Hey Monday. But she ended the season as her mentor Blake Shelton's country protégé, singing songs by Faith Hill, Keith Urban, Rascal Flatts, and Miranda Lambert.

On her debut single, "Wasting All These Tears," Cassadee combines both of these elements. The song is definitely reminiscent of Avril's power ballads ("I'm With You," "My Happy Ending," "Keep Holding On"), but it has a certain Nashville twang. Have a listen:

Will the core country community accept a reality-TV star that started off her "Voice" journey expressing absolutely no desire to be a country singer? That remains to be seen. "Wasting All These Tears" only dabbles in country, and is for the most part a pop song.

Maybe, if Cassadee is marketed correctly (which, let's face it, would be a first for a "Voice" winner), she can enjoy a career like "American Idol's" Kelly Clarkson. Kelly is primarily a pop artist, but she seems to have a "Nashville pass," so to speak, performing with country stars like Jason Aldean and her future stepmother-in-law, Reba McEntire.
