(WENN) - Late country legend Johnny Cash is to be honored with a commemorative U.S. stamp.

A black-and-white photo of the singer taken during a 1963 shoot will grace the tribute, which is being released as part of the United States Postal Service's Music Icons series.

Mark Saunders, a spokesperson for the USPS, tells Today.com there was a lengthy selection process before the stamp was produced.

He explains, "We get about 40,000 suggestions for stamp ideas each year but only about 20 topics make the cut."

A release date for the stamp has not yet been announced.

Cash died of complications from diabetes in 2003, aged 71.
